Astronauts are very interesting people. They are also very intelligent and are very dedicated to what they do. Since we have been sending astronauts into space, we have sent about 500.

These 500 people are very lucky, because they are the only people who have seen our planet with their own eyes from space. We haven’t sent them very far yet though, as technology is only limited to what we know. We have come a long way though, with our opportunities limitless in the future.

Outside of the 500 Astronauts who have travelled to space, just above the Earth, there are about 25 Astronauts that have travelled just that little bit further and have orbited the moon, and only about half of them have touched down on a completely different world. Yes you guessed it. That other world is the moon!

It is very difficult to become an astronaut, it takes many years of dedication and effort, where you have to do very well at school and college to get into the program. However, it is not impossible to become an astronaut if that is your dream. Training is very hard, where you would have to spend even more time in a classroom to learn and prepare for space travel. The training involves a lot of simulations where you would work through experiences of space before going.

The first Man in space was Russian Yuri Gagarin

The first Woman in space was Russian Valentina Tereshkova

The first Man to set foot on the moon was American Neil Armstrong

Its not just men and women however who have travelled into space, and believe it or not, animals were first sent to space before humans, to see if humans could survive the trip. Scientists have sent all sorts of animals into space since space travel started. Dogs, Monkeys, Fish, Mice and even Bees have travelled into space.

  1. If this is an article dedicated to astronauts and cosmonauts, shouldn’t there be more than just 3 famous astronauts mentioned in it? Being famous shouldn’t result in always being talked about, and always being mentioned in articles of all sorts. In the end, I really feel that there should be more facts listed in it. Also, it would be really nice if you’d added more than just 3 astronauts. Maybe mention Alan Shepard and Chris Hadfield.

    1. That’s true like I’m reading this article because I want to be an astronaut but what about Michael Collins or buzz aldrin like they were with Neil when they set foot on the moon

  2. My dream is to be an astronaut but the problem is that i cant because I am in Albania and here is no school or university to be an astronaut.
